 She's
come a long way baby – from backyard boxing as a youth to pay-per-view boxing
events on the Las Vegas strip. Jackie "Sunshine" Smith is
one of few women in the tough business of professional boxing and the owner
of Sunshine Boxing Incorporated – an international promotions and television
production company. Sunshine Boxing Inc. manages all aspects of a boxing
event, provides professional development for boxers, and produces boxing
related television programs. Jackie has even worked as a Second in the corner
of her heavyweight fighter during an HBO Roy Jones undercard fight. This
lady knows the boxing business inside and outside the ropes.
Jackie Smith, the only woman in boxing with a television show, is the Executive
Producer and television host of Sunshine Boxing Show - a 30 minute
weekly boxing show taped on location at major boxing events. The Comcast cable
show has a potential viewing audience of 600,000 based on Atlanta cable subscriptions.
HBO Sports has requested and received original footage from the Sunshine Boxing
Show. A few boxing celebrities – contemporary and legends - interviewed by
Jackie on the show include Don King, Evander Holyfield, Max Kellerman, Emanuel
Steward, Marc Ratner, Judge Mills Lane, Smokin' Joe Frazier, Michael Spinks,
Gerry Cooney, Aaron Pryor, Harold Lederman, Jimmy Lennon, Jr. and Bert Sugar.
Jackie is the former television host of ATL After Dark Inside Boxing .
Jackie was interviewed by HBO-TVKO for her comments at the Holyfield vs. Lewis
rematch in Las Vegas; and has also been featured in numerous other media outlets.
The
world's greatest promoter, Don King, called it "a gender bender" when
he introduced Jackie to international media as his choice for Local Promoter
of the Evander Holyfield vs. Vaughn Bean World Heavyweight Championship on
Showtime cable. It was the first time in the history of boxing that a woman
was selected as local promoter for a world heavyweight championship. During
this same time period, Jackie Smith was the only woman featured in International
Boxing Digest as one of the "World's Leading Boxing Managers." Jackie
received the Pioneer Award from the 100% Wrong Sports Club for her trail blazing
work as a woman in the boxing industry. Jackie is currently pursuing international
boxing ventures in South Africa.
Jackie is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and graduate of Grambling State
University in Louisiana. Jackie is an associate member of the Organization
of Black Airline Pilots (OBAP) and a member of the historical Ebenezer Baptist
Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Jackie enhances her knowledge of boxing techniques
with personal boxing lessons from world-class boxing trainer, Johnny Gant.
